The Age Of Truth

“Several years ago, I had been graced with the opportunity to interview Shri Mataji Nirmala Devi, world renowned spiritual leader, former associate of Mahatma Gandhi, and two time Nobel Peace Prize Nominee. It was an experience that has changed my life forever and has taught me the real solutions for inner and global peace.”

In 1970, Shri Mataji perfected a simple but effective technique for raising the"kundalini"on a mass scale. She calls this revolutionary breakthrough, Sahaja Yoga, or"spontaneous union", and describes it as the final breakthrough as we enter the"Age of Truth.” Now in 80 countries throughout the globe, hundreds of thousands of people are experiencing the benefits of this unique system in human transformation.

Her achievements have been recognized by scientists, psychologists, politicians, and heads of state around the world. Shri Mataji has been decorated with many prestigious awards including: The United Nations Peace Prize; invited by UNICEF and UNIFEM to speak at the Fourth World Conference on Women in Beijing; is the only woman honorary member of the Petrovskaya Academy of Arts and Sciences (only 12 people in the world have been granted this honor-one of them being Albert Einstein). In Britain, Shri Mataji was voted the Woman's Icon of the Millennium, and as a young woman she advised Gandhi on spiritual issues.

Shri Mataji gives Self-Realization, a living power that brings each individual to a deep sense of integration and harmony. Through her unique gift, we can now we can feel God on our central nervous system and can prove, like a science, that God exists.

The single blade of grass pointed its slim green finger towards the glowing sun. It had somehow managed to push itself through the concrete rendering, a crack that split the solid paving stone from edge to edge. But there it was. It had, with grace and ease, surmounted even this the sturdiest of obstacle, to assume its rightful place in the universe and was now swaying daintily against the breeze, lost in its own sweet song. I considered this awesome achievement for some while until the sheer enormity of it forced me to conclude," Wow!"

If the power that enabled this, is the same sweet, intelligent, yet gentle force that created the universe- makes the seasons turn, the plants to grow, and to organize, so beautifully and effortlessly for eons, all the living organisms on this place we call Earth, then it begged the question," Where are we humans going wrong?”

After all, aren't we supposed to be the most highly evolved species on the planet? How come we spend most of our time in disharmony and at discord with one another and worst of all, in conflict with ourselves. It is indeed, a quandary that, for centuries mankind has not been able to solve. But, I was determined, at least to try. Years of study, frustration, travel, and interviewing the most eminent people in all fields of science, medical, academic and religious philosophy had not completely satisfied me.

So, one day when I saw the photo of a pleasant lady smiling knowingly on a poster that announced," Sahaja Yoga Meditation- Connect to the Living Power that Created You", I remembered my communion with the little blade of grass that day and was determined to find out more. Shri Mataji Nirmala Devi, founder of Sahaja Yoga, has a very simple explanation to this age-old problem.

All human problems are created because we have disconnected from the power that created us. We once enjoyed the same love and protection as the things in nature, but through our evolutionary path, we have met with obstacles of a more subtle kind, in the shape of ego and conditioning. These enemies fool us at every level of society. And so we stay in those realms, often building nice comforts and big castles and worrying ourselves sick that someone might come along and steal them. We would fight for them, even die for them. And so the treadmill of life rolls on.

But this is not the aim of life. We forget who and what we really are and what it is that we are really here for.”You mean we have to become who we are supposed to be?”I remember my Irish, elderly dad had so wisely asked. But how?

Shri Mataji has a simple answer. within every human being there lies a dormant power. It has been there, sleeping, and just waiting for us to call upon it. Her name is the"kundalini", and she is the divine power within all of us. Once we desire to break free from the ego and conditionings that promise everything but deliver so little, the"kundalini"Will leave her home at the base of the spine in the sacrum bone and gently rise, like the sap in a tree, to give nourishment and balance to the individual. Some people call it the sixth sense, others"Intuition"And some the"Inner child"or"voice.” It is, in fact, the spirit, the true self. Evidence of this occurrence is experienced as a Cool Breeze from the top of the head and can often be felt elsewhere around the body.

Reconnecting to that power is called Self-Realization. Harnessing this power, so that it can look after us in our daily life and using it to master the troublesome human problems that prevent us from this peaceful union, is the greatest and highest achievement possible for mankind.. It means that finally, we can"Ascend"to become," who we are supposed to be"- The spirit at one with God.

Shri Mataji has offered us the knowledge, the natural methods and the ability to achieve this and to pass this experience of self-realization to others. Shri Mataji likens it to one candle enlightening another.”If all the people of this world were to transform ,then can you imagine what will happen. Such a world!

It has been thirty years since Shri Mataji, respectfully and affectionately called," Mother", first awakened the"kundalini's"of a few ardent seekers. The movement has grown around the world to a point where hundreds of thousands of ordinary people of all types, religions, classes and color, are now enjoying a more highly evolved quality of life and developing an increasing finely tuned sensitivity to this divine power. A sensitivity that can"self heal"And help others to also - a sensitivity that can clearly and quickly define what is appropriate and not appropriate to the spirit, the true self,to verify what is truth and what isn't in any situation - a sensitivity that can affect external events to the positive good.

How does Shri Mataji view the tragedy of September 11th and events that followed? She says that evil spreads its powers all over because of two factors. One is that the human beings are not knowledgeable in the ways of the divine, and the other is that they think they are the powerful ones. It is because they don't know this subtle knowledge, that they fall into the wrong path of, ignorance, and then try to oppose the people who are doing good. This illusion not only creates problems, but absolute destruction. This terrorism, the war in which America is now engaged, is being fought on a physical plane. The President of the United States hopes to bring about and enlist the support and collective participation of peoples and leaders around the world to combat terrorism.

Sahaja Yoga runs in parallel with these ideas, but on a subtle plane. Sahaja Yoga aims to bring people together, from ALL religions to promote and achieve the spiritual ascent of ALL people. Shri Mataji points out that religion has been so corrupted that people can no longer see what is the truth. For example, she says," Terrorism is about fighting the infidel, that is, anyone, in this case, who is not a Muslim. The whole concept of Jihad has been perverted in modern times and used as an act of aggression to attack others who are of a different faith, rather than to face the inner truth.” Its actual meaning is to face the inner struggle, all the things that bring people out of balance and disconnect them from the spirit. Shri Mataji hopes these ideas will prompt people to introspection rather than revenge.

"Finding faults with others is very easy. But find out the faults within yourself.” When people get their self-realization, they will see that all that is happening is really a drama. But one must also study the subtle knowledge properly and apply it to ones self and to see if you are also part and parcel of that drama. For that you have to rise higher above your ego and your superego and your conditioning and from their watch and see yourself. With introspection, all your real powers will come out- your powers to understand the problems of your country and of the whole world and to change the world to become a world of high quality spiritual people.

The preoccupation of war has now died down to some extent. Evil is now suppressed. Shri Mataji says it happened more quickly than she expected. And now it is time to turn the attention to your individual and collective ascent.

What is Shri Mataji's next step?”We aim to hold a conference where representatives from different religions around the world will come together to discuss how organized religions are lacking. The aim is to take the concept of a universal," pure"religion- (as the movement currently happening through the methods of Sahaja Yoga and gaining fast momentum) and to offer as an alternative- a"universal religion of the spirit.”

A dream, a vision, no longer. Shri Mataji has given us the know-how, as well as her unending love and patience and support to achieve this for ourselves. After all, we are no less than the trees and the stars. We deserve our place in the universe, the kingdom of God, and to sway in the breeze in our own sweet song- No less than a single blade of grass.”
