'Where is God in all this?' - the problem for religions
The Guardian (Monday January 3, 2005)
The destruction of the Portuguese capital Lisbon in an
earthquake in
1755, which killed 60,000 people, was the event which
helped to provoke the Enlightenment and first caused
philosophers to ask more
sophisticated questions about God's role than divine
vindictiveness
towards wicked people.
Iqbal Sacranie, the secretary general of the Muslim
Council of Britain, told the BBC Sunday programme: "This
is the will of God almighty. It is this aspect that is
beyond us. Allah knows best. None of us is going to live
for an indefinite period. Death always takes place but
what form it takes is always beyond us. People of faith
need to have a very firm belief in God almighty. It is
for God's will. It is for the betterment of mankind at
large."
But Fergus Stokes, a former priest turned humanist, said
that Christians and other believers were trying to have
it both ways: "Either God has a hand in the fishbowl, in
which case you can pray to him, or he doesn't."
"There is some kind of inbuilt desire to hang on to
supernatural forces. More and more, religion is not
working for people and supernatural explanations rarely
help."

Yes, it is true more and more, religion is not working
for people. It never worked for me till i came to know
Shri Mataji. There has been no guru or will there ever
be one to rival Shri Mataji, who towers above all. The
world today would have known Shri Mataji far more better
and understood Sahaja Yoga in depth had SYs been frank
and fearless about the Divine Message. (i have provided
evidence of ex-SYs who have learnt little else than the
subtle system, catches and cures despite spending
months/years in local collectives.)
Had SYs focused their attention and put their collective
energies
to announce the commencement of the Last Judgment and
Resurrection for the last three decades, hundreds of
thousands would have joined Sahaja Yoga today.
But they did not and we are all paying a terrible toll
today which, in my opinion, is as tragic as the Asian
tsunami itself (30 years of silence and fear of public
reaction is indeed tragic). For those seekers today
looking for answers from this unprecedented catastrophe
the subtle system makes as much sense as the terrible
disaster itself. If the tragedy is indeed God's will for
the betterment of mankind at large, what will humans
relate to - the subtle system or the Divine Message
addressed to all humanity?
But for three decades Shri Mataji has explained in
detail all that is needed to understand this Divine
Message. She has fulfilled Her duties and is now more
than 80-years-old. Time and again in public She has
proclaimed that the Last Judgment and Resurrection (Al-Qiyamah)
has begun. How come SY websites have made no mention of
that Great Event, the very reason She was sent to Earth?
How can they ever give answers to Muslims and
Christians, and explain God's will that is preordained
for the betterment of mankind through the subtle system
mindset? This indeed is a terrible tragedy on its own.

"The question remains as to whether some kind of
spiritual evolution
is in progress, whether large amounts of people
gradually taking up
meditation and other forms of inner practice will create
a critical
mass of global enlightenment, or whether we will
continue in what
could be called the Brazilian rain forest mode. In the
past, this
theory goes, a small number of mystics, ascetics,
monastics,
wandering mendicants, and other followers of the
Perennial
Philosophy were capable of providing the spiritual
oxygen that
helped the rest of the world to breathe and that
sustained the
mainstream practice of religion with all its surface
anomalies.
These days it seems increasingly questionable whether
this approach
will be sufficient to redeem a crippled planet; on the
whole, the
evolutionary theory makes more sense. But how long will
it take? The
Bolivian visionary Oscar Ichazo said some years ago, "In
the past
eras the mystical trip was an individual matter, or at
least a
matter of small groups, but no longer. This is what is
new in human
history. Everybody can now achieve a higher degree of
consciousness.
.... The vision of humanity as one enormous family, one
objective
tribe, may once have been utopian. Now it is a practical
necessity." "
