The Holy Qur'an
Surah
75:20-21 (Part 5)
1.
I do call to witness the Resurrection Day;
2. And I do call to witness the self-reproaching
Spirit.
3. Does man think that We cannot assemble his
bones?
4. Nay, We are able to put together in perfect
order, the very tip of
his fingers.
5. But man wishes to do wrong (even) in the time
in front of him.
6. He questions: "When is the Day of
Resurrection?"
7. At length, when the sight is dazed
8. And the moon is buried in darkness
9. And the sun and moon are joined together that
Day will Man say;
10. "Where is the refuge?"
11. By no means! No place of safety!"
12. Before the Lord (alone), that Day will be the place of
rest.
13. That Day will Man be told (all) that he put forward, and
all that he put back.
14. Nay, man will be evidence against himself,
15. Even though he were to make excuses.
16. Move not thy tongue concerning the (Qur'an), to make
haste therewith.
17. It is for Us to collect it and to promulgate it:
18. But when We have promulgated it, follow thou its
recital:
19. Nay more, it is for Us to explain it:
20.
Nay, (ye men!) but ye love the fleeting life,
21.
And leave alone the Hereafter.
22. Some faces, that Day, will beam (in brightness and
beauty) -
23. Looking towards their Lord;
24. And some faces, that Day, will be sad and dismal,
25. In the thought that some backbreaking calamity was about
to be inflicted on them;
26. Yea, when (the soul) reaches to the collarbone (in its
exit),
27. And there will be a cry, "Who is a magician (to
restore him)?"
28. And he will conclude that it was (the Time) of Parting;
29. And one leg will be joined with another:
30. The Day the Drive will be (all) to thy Lord!
31. So he gave nothing in charity, nor did he pray! -
32. But on the contrary, he rejected Truth and turned away!
33. Then did he stalk to his family in full conceit!
34. Woe to thee, (O man!), yea, woe!
35. Again, woe to thee, (O man!), yea, woe!
36. Does Man think that he will be left uncontrolled, (without purpose)?
37. Was he not a drop of sperm emitted (in lowly form)?
38. Then did he become a clinging clot;
Then did (Allah) make and fashion
(him) in due proportion.
39. And of him He made two sexes, male and female.
40. Has not he, (the same), the power to give life to the dead?

"Those Who Behave Arrogantly On The Earth . . . Them Will I Turn Away From My Signs"

For the second day
running, suspected Muslim militant gunmen have shot dead members of the Hindu
faith in the troubled territory of Indian-administered Kashmir.

Those who behave arrogantly on the
earth in defiance of right -
Them will I turn away from My signs:
Even if they see all the signs, they will not believe in them;
And if they see the way of right conduct, they will not adopt it as the
way;
But if they see the way of error, that is the way they will adopt.
For they have rejected Our Signs, and failed to take warning from them.

(Abdullah Yusuf Ali, The Holy Qu'ran, Amana Corporation, 1989.)
"Algeria: Bloody Nightmare
A civil war between the secular government and Islamic militants has left
60,000 dead since 1991.
Drumbeat of Death
The
Massacre. In the dead of night, young men carrying rifles, axes and knives
sweep into a village or city neighborhood. After shooting the men, the
assassins slit the throats of woman and children, decapitate the victims
and mount their heads on stakes outside. Then the attackers set the bodies
ablaze and escape into the darkness."

"Hundreds of troops patrolled the Indonesian town of Tasikmalaya
yesterday after Muslim rioters set Christian churches ablaze and attacked
ethnic Chinese-owned shops and cars.
The
violence in the West Javan town, 125 miles south east of the capital,
Jakarta, was the latest in a number of attacks on Christian churches in
predominantly Muslim Indonesia. . . . The police station near the town's
main mosque was attacked first before the riot took on religious and
racial overtones, with the mob burning five Christian churches and several
businesses run by ethnic Chinese Indonesians. . . .
In
October, a Pentecostal priest, his wife, two children and an employee died
and 21 church buildings were burned down in the town of Situbondo, East
Java, after thousands of Muslims rioted. A month earlier, a crowd of
Muslims burned down a Protestant church near Jakarta, while in June, 11
Protestant churches were attacked and badly damaged in Surabaya, East
Java, by what an eyewitness said was a well-organised mob."

"This Is Because They Rejected Our Communications And Were Heedless Of Them."

At least 22 people have
been killed in attacks on a mainly Christian village in the Moluccan Islands, in
eastern Indonesia.
BBC
I will turn away from My communications,
Those who are unjustly proud in the earth;
And if they see every sign they will not believe in It;
And if they see the way of rectitude they do not take It for a way,
And if they see the way of error they take it for a way;
This is because they rejected Our communications
And were heedless of
them.
surah
7.146, Al A'raf
(Muhammed Shakir, The Holy Qur'an,
U. of Michigan.)
"Hindus
accept every religion, praying in the mosque of the
Mohammedans, worshiping before the fire of the
Zoroastrians, and kneeling before the cross of the
Christians, knowing that all the religions, from the
lowest fetishism to the highest absolutism, mean so
many attempts of the human soul to grasp and realise
by the conditions of its birth and association, and
each of them marking a progress. We gather all these
flowers and bind them with the twine of love, making a
wonderful bouquet of worship.
Religion is realisation; not talk, not doctrine, nor
theories, however beautiful they may be. It is being
and becoming, not hearing or acknowledging; it is the
whole soul becoming changed into what it believes."

"India Jets Strike Guerrilla Force Now in Kashmir
By BARRY BEARAK
NEW DELHI, India - Indian combat jets and helicopter gunships
attacked a large guerrilla force dug into the snow-capped mountains of
Kashmir on Wednesday and Thursday, sharply increasing tensions in the
nuclear-armed subcontinent. New Delhi is accusing the guerrillas of being
Pakistan-sponsored Islamic militants who are taking part in a carefully
devised land grab. But Pakistan denied knowledge of the militants. . .
Aerial surveillance later showed that the militants were dispersed
among 24 or more well-fortified positions around the towns of Dras and
Kargil. Rather than the usual hit-and-run invaders, the units had
snowmobiles, artillery and huge stocks of supplies, the Indian military
said.
The operation had the earmarks of months of planning. The Indians said
they thought that it was most likely that preparations were under way even
as the two nations engaged in promising peace talks in February.
At those meetings, the two prime ministers signed the Lahore
Declaration, in which they pledged efforts to resolve the Kashmir dispute.
. . .
Since 1989, a militant separatist movement has grown among Kashmiri
Muslims in India, which has mounted an extensive military response. Some
estimates attribute up to 30,000 deaths to fighting between rebels and
security forces.
Islamic "freedom fighters" from several nations, especially
Afghanistan and Pakistan, have routinely entered the fray, considering it
a holy war. Pakistan concedes that it has offered those soldiers moral and
political support. India contends that the assistance is financial and
military, as well.
Foreign Minister Sartaj Aziz of Pakistan on Wednesday denied knowledge
of the Islamic combatants under attack. "No one knows where they come
from and who they are," Aziz said."

"Islamic Leaders Denounce Kashmir Peace Plan
By Pamela Constable
ISLAMABAD, Pakistan, July 7 - The leaders of 16 Islamic militant
groups vowed today to fight to the "last drop of our blood"
inside India's portion of the disputed territory of Kashmir, strongly
denouncing Pakistani Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif for agreeing to ask the
armed guerrillas to withdraw and dealing a blow to the government's
hopes for ending its border war with India. . . ."We will not even
think of withdrawing. . . . We will continue to the last drop of our
blood, until every holy inch of Kashmir has been liberated from Indian
occupation," said Syed Salahuddin, leader of the United Jihad Council
and chief spokesman for the rebel groups. "We will not allow an
international conspiracy to hijack our movement.".
Asked about India's repeated contention that Pakistani troops are
participating in the incursion, the information minister said the
allegations were "lies and fabrications."
American officials have
said, however, that they agree with India's claims that Pakistani troops
are involved in the operation, and analysts in both India and Pakistan
have suggested that the militant groups would not be able to launch or
sustain such an ambitious operation without help from the
military."
